Our Sanctum sanctorum is one among the 108 great Siva temples. Unni Neeli sandesam, now considered as one of the authentic historical record which was written in the 13th century has mentioned about Thrikkuratti and Panayannar kavu.“Thookum Poothen Parimala Bharam

This shows how much our Temple and the Lord was renowned irrespective of time and distance in the ancient time. As per age-old people, western gate of our temple were used as center for collecting tax and other official use including land surveying during the reign of kings just before our land turned democratic. Even statements given by swearing holding Thalakkallu (a holy stone) were accepted as strong evidence at that period. The head priest of the temple enjoyed a great respective position and even administrative decision was taken in their evening get together of priests. It was only recently Deveswom Board has renovated and transformed the Melshanthi Madam (head priest residence) into Devaswom Hostel.
Namaskara Sadhya was on of the feature where by all priesthood people visiting temple were respectfully welcomed, provided feast and accommodated from the king’s exchequer.
Many has seen in the past, a secret way connecting temple and the Koyikkal royal palace, vacation house of Kayamkulam royal dynasty.
Trikkuratti sivarathri festival was one of the marvelous historical events, further to classical cultural extravaganza performed by renowned artists, where agricultural inputs and outputs trading were performed.
